Special Educational Needs

Kaz Owens – Senior Nursery Nurse/ SENCO

Kaz Owens, Full Time SENCO

I am the SENCO (Level 3) at Little Footprints Day Nursery and have worked here since we opened in 2006.

I have a real passion for supporting SEND children in reaching their full potential.

Over the years we have had many SEND children with different types of needs and I am very proud of the progress that each child has made in our care. I am still in contact with many of these families who have since left us and love to see and hear about their continuing progress.

I use all of my experience and knowledge to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met and their uniqueness is embraced.

Working together with parents/carers, outside agencies and all of our staff, I implement and oversee that the correct support and interventions are in place.

I am also regularly working to support the child’s strengths and weaknesses, using their personal interests to encourage the child’s developments in all areas.

To ensure that everyone is aiming for the same goals, I have regular meetings with everyone involved around the child, with the wants and the needs of the child and family at the forefront of each meeting.

I continue to build on the my professional knowledge by attending regular SEN meetings and courses, as well as keeping up-to-date with the latest SEND legislation.

I would love to hear from you if you have any questions about how I and everyone at Little Footprints Day Nursery could support your child and their needs.

Please call us on 01268 795577 and ask for Kaz.

What they say...

Our daughter attended Little Footprints for the age of six months until she was four years old, and I can honestly say that the nursery became part of our family!

It's nerve-wracking for any first-time parent to leave their child to be taken care of by others, but that feeling is magnified when your child has SEN.

Our daughter has autism and global development delay but the staff in each room went above and beyond to make her time there both fun and educational.

She had a wonderful bond with Kaz and Nicole and they worked extremely hard alongside us to get the most out of her.

They understood our daughter an it really made the world of difference!

In her final year at Little Footprints we worked with Kaz, the SENCO, to apply for an EHCP ready for school. Anyone that has been through the process knows how hard and soul-destroying it can be to talk about your child so negatively just to get the help they are entitled to.

Kaz spent hours of her own time preparing the paperwork, chasing up, guiding us through the process and providing much needed emotional support.

Thanks to her amazing hard work, our daughter was granted a fully-funded EHCP in time for her first day at school.

All the staff are wonderful but Kaz is a true asset to Little Footprints and we will be forever grateful for everything she did for us.

If your child has SEN, I can "hand on heart" say that they will be truly looked after here and get the support they need from staff who are passionate and know what they are doing.

Sending our daughter here is the best decision we ever made!

Kaz was Eddie's SENCO whilst he was at Little Footprints Day Nursery.

He absolutely loved his time there.

The support, care and consideration for his needs were always catered for and Kaz worked really hard to ensure we got the best out of Eddie developmentally.

Her support to me as a parent of a child with special needs was also invaluable and Little Footprints Day Nursery is lucky to have her as their SENCO.
